The best Watts book yet?

I've loved Alan Watts' work for nearly 50 years now. I have nearly all his books and many recordings and have read a lot of the writings multiple times. Sometimes I have thought of which book would I choose or recommend as my favorite? Well, at least at the moment, my favorite is this fantastic new "Out Of Your Mind."

This book covers all the highlights of Alan Watts' greatest hits: Who we are--what and how we are--what the universe is, and consciousness, and Spirit, and God. Big stuff, yes I know, but Alan Watts is the master of the big picture and here in this latest amazing book the reader is immersed in the calm center of the storm. Free at last.

My thanks to Mark Watts who has for decades kept the Alan Watts legacy alive and well and fresh and new. There's another thing we can say about Alan Watts--he had a great son.

The book has a conversational tone which is easier to follow than some of his other books and it's loaded with gems of wisdom. Most of it is centered around enjoying life, which it seems many forget to do.

Very good find on Amazon. Very comprehensive and I'm sure will come in handy.....at some point. Only giving 4 stars right now because I really haven't had to use it much. Set up for the MAC is pretty straight forward even for a first time user like me. But the Quick Reference Guide a purchased at the same time as this has been very useful and has come in quite handy several times. I almost would recommend buying it over iMac for dummies but if for some reason something should go wrong with the system.....you may need something more comprehensive.

Joseph A. DeVito received his BA from Hunter College in 1960, his MA from Temple University in 1962 and his PhD from the University of Illinois in 1964. After receiving his PhD, he taught at Hunter College-in-the-Bronx (later Lehman College). One of the worst things I've ever bought from Amazon. Not commenting about the book or the matter but the online electronic kindle version of the book that I rented from amazon. It is basically a bootleg photocopied version of the book with a non user friendly page flipping feature. The app is useless. Freezes frequently. Flipping through pages is terrible. You can never understand where you are. The search feature and the go to page features are terrible. Scrolling using the slider at the bottom of the screen is useless. Extremely difficult to cross reference any topic or subject matter. You can highlight but what's the use if the app and book keeps on freezing and just misguides you. Please donot use the electronic version. Just order in advance pay a few extra dollars and get the actual book. Your grades will thank you for that.

HORRIBLE WRITERS!

The most frustrating thing about this book, though interesting, is that the terms throughout the book are unclear. Reading the terms in the back are fine, but the definitions don't match up with what they say IN the actual chapters. Some terms aren't even defined in the back. Some bolded terms don't even give a clear definition in the chapter. It's very vague and you just keep reading everything before and after trying to understand the word. Poorly written. At least my professor is great and knows her stuff, or I'd really FAIL this class.

What's better then Prince Charming? 2 Prince Charming's. The Charming twins may fool some but they can be dirty just like their friends, Magnus & Logan. Cade & Caspian want a forever with someone and they finally found her in Princess Ilana but Princess Ilana had her heart crushed, can the Charming Twins put her heart back together to have their HEA? I really enjoy this series and the Charming Twins were sexy and I couldn't get enough of them and the filthy things they say. If you want a short & sexy read then this is a must read

Buy finally they make a bet that she will have a good time with them. She cant turn down a bet but is little miss innocent...innocent after all?

I fun and spicy tale of a jaded princess meeting her TWO prince charmings. I really enjoyed Ilana, Cade and Caspian's story, very hot but still with the sweetness of a dirty fairytale.

Just lovely

Oh, Mary! How I love you so. This book is as delightful and enriching as any of her other collection of poems. Mary knows nature. She knows presence. She knows how to love her life. She is a genius who never seems to feel the need to be "clever." ("Clever is for cocktail parties" a poetry teacher once told me.) Oliver expresses her wisdom in the purest, clearest, most sacred poems. Whenever I feel down, I read "Why I Wake Early": "Hello sun in my face," I say.

A wonderful collection of poems by Pulitzer Prize winner Mary Oliver.

I admit to not liking most of the contemporary poems and poets I have read in various poem publications and books. Many of the so-called modern free verse poems today are incomprehensible and absolutely meaningless with no purpose except to confuse anyone reading them. The old masters will always remain my favorite poets. However, after reading a recently published Mary Oliver book of poems, which I enjoyed, I decided to read more of her poems. This poetry collection (New and Selected Poems by Mary Oliver) was published in 1992 and includes a large number of her poems created between 1963 and 1992. Her poetry is often beautiful, easy to understand and have real meaning.

This poems in this volume are organized into the years they were written. New poems (1991-1992), from House of light (1990), from Dream work (1986), from American primitive (1983), from Twelve Moons (1979), from The night traveler and Sleeping in the forest (1978 also includes five poems not previously published in any volume), from The river Styx, Ohio and other poems (1972), and from No voyage and other poems (1963-1965). There are so many wonderful poems in this collection that it is difficult to choose any favorite ones, but here is just a small sample of the ones I really liked a lot. When death comes, The waterfall, October, The sea, Wild Geese, Starfish, Sunrise, Lightening, and The first snow.

In conclusion, if you are a fan of Mary Oliver's poetry, you should check out this volume.

Inspiring

Many of Mary Oliver’s poems flow with an anthem-like lyricism that often attests to the grandeur and mystery of the natural world. She plays the role of a quiet witness in order to observe and learn what life has to teach: how happiness is possible if you resign yourself to the rapture and beauty of the world around you. She wants to be invested in the glory and energy of nature and understand its holiness, its closeness to God. She loves all flora and fauna and wants to connect to them. Her compassion for life allows her to look upon the world with gratitude and appreciation. The wildness and sheer power and intensity of nature is more than miraculous; it is her source of bliss and strength. She allows the power of the natural world to keep her memory active with visions and dreams of her elemental self becoming one with the universe. Her poetry is an attempt to achieve that union, and few poets can inspire the way she does.

Con gran dominio del oficio, Carlos Moncada combina en esta obra la investigación historiográfica con la periodística: estudia el pasado como una lección para el presente y el futuro. Para trazar el lúgubre recorrido, que comienza en 1860 y llega hasta nuestros días, el autor se nutrió con documentos históricos, visitó los lugares donde se registraron varios de los asesinatos y las desapariciones y privilegió la información hemerográfica y testimonial. Más allá de lo anterior, Moncada denuncia la ineficacia de la legislación con que se ha intentado parar la incesante acumulación de cadáveres. La única solución del problema es precisamente lo que no han podido hacer las autoridades: atrapar a los homicidas.

En esta narración, el horror no se logra con recursos literarios, sino con los hechos escuetos que muestran cómo los criminales asesinan a los periodistas sin cuidarse de sexos, hora, lugar o autoridades.

En el camino, un juicio permanece: No se mata la verdad matando periodistas.

Carlos Moncada Ochoa. Nacio en Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, en 1934. Licenciado en Derecho por la Universidad de Sonora; especializacion en Derecho Constitucional por la UNAM. Se inicio como reportero en Ciudad Obregon en 1953. Ha sido Director del Diario del Yaqui, de 1961 a 1963, Director de la Revista de la Universidad de Sonora, de 1964 a 1967, Director del semanario Claridades de 1970 a 1971, Director de la revista Impacto de 1989 a 1991. Ha colaborado en Novedades, El Heraldo de Mexico, La Prensa, Unomasuno y Excelsior. Actualmente escribe para Critica, de Hermosillo. Es autor de mas de 30 libros, entre los que destacan: El Mexico de aca visto desde el mas alla (1976), Cayeron. 67 gobernadores derrocados (1979), Diez en el poder (1997), El Quijote de la Revolucion: Adolfo de la Huerta (1982), La Sonora cruel y verdadera (1999), Recuerdo que recuerdo (2000), Hablemos de mujeres, cuentos (2005). Entre otros reconocimientos, ha obtenido el Primer premio en el concurso nacional de cuento, en Puebla, 1971, el Diploma especial en el concurso nacional del Club de Periodistas en 1973, Premio del Congreso del Estado de Sonora por su trayectoria periodistica en 2001, el Reconocimiento del Club Primera Plana, de Mexico, como decano del periodismo en Sonora, 2006. En 2008, el Instituto Sonorense de Cultura puso su nombre a la Feria del Libro y publico una antologia de su obra: Pistas para encontrarme, del maestro Leonel Peru.

About the Author
Janet Horne received her Master of Science in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Business Education from California State University, Long Beach and has spent her career teaching business and computer applications courses. The majority of her teaching career has been at Los Angeles Pierce College, where, in addition to being a full-time professor, she has also been the Computer Applications and Office Technologies Department Chairperson, served on many committees, and developed new programs. Janet has been a presenter at many educational meetings and seminars and involved with a variety of professional organizations.

Janet’s quest to find a textbook to use in teaching QuickBooks led her to write one of the first texts for QuickBooks. The text is designed for a semester-length course with the purpose of teaching students how to use QuickBooks in the business world. The text goes from simple to complex in transaction analysis and entry. QuickBooks 2015: A Complete Course is the sixteenth edition of the book. Other textbooks by Janet Horne include several editions of QuickBooks Pro: Simplified, QuickBooks Pro: An Introduction, Peachtree Complete Accounting, Getting Started with QuickBooks Pro, and Computerized Accounting with CA-Simply Accounting. Gr 5-8–Salva and Nya have difficult paths to walk in life. Salva's journey, based on a true story, begins in 1985 with an explosion. The boy's small village in Sudan erupts into chaos while the 11-year-old is in school, and the teacher tells the children to run away. Salva leaves his family and all that is familiar and begins to walk. Sometimes he walks alone and sometimes there are others. They are walking toward a refugee camp in Ethiopia, toward perceived safety. However, the camp provides only temporary shelter from the violent political storm. In 1991-'92, thousands are killed as they try to cross a crocodile-infested river when they are forced out of the country; Salva survives and gets 1200 boys to safety in Kenya. Nya's life in 2008 revolves around water. She spends eight hours a day walking to and from a pond. In the dry season, her family must uproot themselves and relocate to the dry lake bed where they dig in the mud until water eventually trickles out. Nya's narrative frames Salva's journey from Sudan to Ethiopia to Rochester, NY, and, eventually, back to Sudan. Both story lines are spare, offering only pertinent details. Must Be An Excellent Book

This was for my 7th grade son was assigned to read in school. This was the first book my son had ever finished, talked about and even read note than he was assigned to do. My son is dyslexic which makes reading a book laborious or even impossible. I bought the feature that reads it to him which he loved and made it more interesting since they had music and the reader used different voices for each character. It also highlighted the words as it read and for words that are hard it give the definition. Amazing it opens up a whole new world for struggling readers.

wish it was longer and more detailed but overall a good book for all

I thought this was a good book, especially for children because it is a quick read. It is classified as a children's book which is what makes it appropriate as far as the length of the book, vocabulary and age group. But overall it lacked some details and could have been longer( they never explained more in depth the reunion between him and his immediate family in Sudan and lacked details about his New York family). It went too much in depth about other things that should not have mattered like the endless descriptions of Nya's walks( hence the title, i know ) but the story is really about him and his incredibly sad struggles, and secondarily, how the lack of water affected people in different areas of Sudan and surrounding areas. The vocabulary is simple enough for children, too simple for adults imo. The constant back and forth references to Nya were eventually necessary in order to make the connection at the end but the way the stories were written was a bit annoying, What I enjoyed most was that it is a true story about perseverance, determination and hope with some miracles thrown in there:) Stories like this teach our youth and people in general that there are more important things than worrying about their electronic devices, name brand clothes and new cars. We take for granted everything that makes our lives so easy but there are millions of people all over the world that struggle to find a sip of water or even a stale piece of bread to eat.

Two parts of the story of one of the Lost Boys of Sudan

Linda Sue Park’s “A Long Walk to Water,” completely captivated me. It’s based on a true story of Salva, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan, who fled Southern Sudan and walked to Ethiopia. The story is told in two parts. The first part takes place in 1985, when the Southern Sudanese rebels were fighting the government in the North. Salva and other young boys were in school when war reached them. They fled their home villages to reach refugee camps in Ethiopia. They left their families behind and most never saw their family again. Later, when the refugees were driven from Ethiopia, Salva led a group of boys and walked to the camp in Kenya.

The second part of the story takes place in 2008. Nya is a young girl whose job in life is to walk to fetch water all day, every day. Girls like Nya don't go to school. Her chore day in and day out is to walk to the pond to fill her container and bring it home. After her morning trip to the pond, Nya eats, and then turns around and walks back to the pond to fill her container again. When the pond dries up, the village moves to the Lake where the water has to be reached by digging.

"A Long Walk to Water" is a powerful, gritty story that grabs you and compels you to read to find out what happens to Salva and Nya. The story threads finally come together in the end. This story is highly recommended for middle grade students, ages 10-12. This book truly brings history alive in the classroom.

Life changing.

If you're a believer that your thoughts and beliefs can create the things in your life, whether material things or whatever it is that will bring you happiness, this book will become your bible. You should first start with "The Secret" (the audio book is more effective), then advance to the earlier teachings of Mike Dooley, then progress to this. Again, audio versions are much more effective. I've been studying this for over 10 years, and my life has never been more complete. All the things I've wanted to have or accomplish, I now have, just because I believed without doubt that I could have it, that I deserved it, and did what I needed to do to get started, then let the Universe take over and get me to my goals. It's not bolognie. You don't have to accept everything that Mike teaches. You do what works for you and blends with your beliefs.

Infinite Possibilities outlines a very straight forward plan for manifesting dreams. The basic premise is that once a dream is clearly visualized, all that's required is a belief that it will happen coupled with sustained action in the general direction of the stated goal. Dooley claims the Universe will do the rest.

Dooley's ideas can be described as a Plan of Action for the Law of Attraction. Oftentimes, people read about the Law of Attraction and interpret it as just wishing something into being. In reality, the Law of Attraction is a call to action. In Infinite Possibilities, Dooley stresses the importance of taking ownership of a dream by acting on it.

Infinite Possibilities touches on the idea of people being eternal spirits – something those who believe in an afterlife claim as well. The departure comes in Dooley's assertion that we can have more than one earthly experience – something many traditional spiritual teachings fall short of. Dooley doesn't use the word reincarnation, but that's basically what he's talking about. I neither believe nor reject this idea. My position is that the only moment I have is now, so everything else is irrelevant.

One thing that separates Dooley from other motivational thinkers is his profound sense of humor. Life should be fun and learning how to live one full of joy should be fun as well.

... This book is . So many realizations about my life from this book. And I've been into this kind of work for a while. I think the grounded, no BS tone he has that keeps it real in this subject. Don't "think" to much about whether or not to buy this book, just get it with a sense of knowing that there will be something in it you needed to hear to help you gain clarity. Think about how you'll feel with that better understanding of your life and what you'll do with it... And it will happen in a way that's right for you. That's one of the things this book teaches you how to do.

A Different Type of Sales Book

I've been in sales many years. I've read a LOT of sales book and listened to a lot of tapes. Nowadays, I tend to skim them because most books are just a rehash of old ideas. Parinello has done something here that I have never heard of before. He asks the reader to "trust" that his method will work "as is." I have done just that. I followed his cookbook approach to making contact with VITO. It has worked for me better than 50% of the time. Deviate, skip steps or embellish and you're on your own. I'm not saying that all his ideas are great, but his formula for gaining access to VITO works. What to do when you get the meeting, I wouldn't leave to Parinello. Try Spin Selling & Strategic Selling for the rest of it.

Valuable topic with lots of specifics

This book helps me remember that regardless of who I'm talking to, there is a VITO. The person who has the final veto power, regardless of where they show up on the organizational chart. Finding out who that person is and making sure I include them in my sales process can make a sale that otherwise wouldn't happen.

The book is filled with specific advice and guidelines. I especially like chapter 4's portrait of VITO. It helps me better understand how to deal more effectively with this key person.

Chapter 21 is another favorite of mine. It answers the most common questions that come to mind when we start applying what the book teaches. That helps make the book even more practical.

I'm glad a colleague of mine recommended this book to me. It's an excellent investment of time and a little money.

Kicking in the front door to higher sales

Everyone talks about how to sell to the customer once your in the door and have an established relationship with the account. Anyone who's gone through Solution Selling, SPIN, etc., understands the need to listen to the customer and direct him/her to your solution. The unanswered question remains - how do you get in front of the right person to begin with. What if you've never called on the account before and have no relationship. Selling to VITO will give you a workable blueprint for effectively getting to the right person. I've tried it and I like the structured approach. It also offers great advise on how to avoid spending much time with SEMORE, the guy who will suck up your time with never ending requests for information but unable to actually buy your product. While your "hit" rate will depend on how closely aligned your product is to who you think VITO is in your suspect organization, with "Selling to Vito" you will be better armed to get in the door and stay there. - SM
