Many of us longtime Avid/FCP editors have always incorporated other peoples' PS output into our work. That just doesn't cut it anymore; the times they are a changin' and if you want to make it today, old dog or not, you need to master Photoshop. PS has become THE standard graphics creation tool... and all the other compositing apps build off it too.
OK, fine, but how to choose a resource to guide you through what is a VERY deep application? Look no further. This book is EXACTLY what I needed, well-written, well thought out, with all the tasks I need to do to make great-looking video projects, but without a lot of other stuff I DON'T need and will never use. I'm still working my way through it slowly, but I'm finding it the perfect resource to make me truly conversant in Photoshop. The DVD is great too and full of free stuff.
I would have to say that I've already saved myself close to 100X the money I spent on the book simply by not having to sub out basic graphic fixes and design work. I recommend it without reservation and thank Richard for all his hard work.

This is a GREAT PHOTO SHOP BOOK!!!

"Photoshop for Video" is not only a well written book on learning how to use Photoshop as an artistic tool to create graphics, with lots of Gee-Wiz tips, techniques & tutorials to make you a better designer and Photoshop user, but if you have anything or want to have anything to do with using Photoshop along with your favorite non-linear video application, buy this book NOW.

From DV to High Definition video this book is an indispensable reference guide on how to get your graphics from Photoshop into your editor correctly. The included DVD has 2 1/2 hours of training video, tutorials and images to work on to will help you sharpen your skills.

My favorite parts in the book are the so called "PROfile" sections' highlighting editors and motion graphic designers and detailing the many ways these pro's use Photoshop to make graphics and save time.

Great book

Bought this book for a film class at school dealing with Photoshop. Although most of my knowledge out of the class came more from the professor, the book was an excellent guide, and, later on, has proved to be a fantastic reference guide, especially when I don't want to hunt online. Well written and informative. Would recommend to anyone trying to learn photoshop, although there are some really great (and free) resources to be found online. It's one of those things that I just enjoy having a physical copy around.

Pathophysiology book is really good

This book is assigned for a class, but it is really helpful for providing informative reviews of the different body systems and it touches on the common pathological disorders that occur within each system. For example, within the endocrine system section, this book succinctly describes the processes involved in pathological disease states such as hyperthyroidism and diabetes mellitus, among several other conditions. The authors have a way of being concise in their descriptions and explanations, which is nice because there's hardly any fluff to weed through as with some textbooks, but they still manage to deliver solid key information regarding pathophysiology. This book is great for reviewing path, and its also a nice reference book to have handy.

Informative but too much so.

This book is very informative, but because everything in small print, it strains the eyes and there is just so much in the book - but little to no pictures, or visual aids.

Overall my interest in patho made the book alright, but it was a pain to read, and process all the information that I needed to learn for the test because of the formatting of the book with large paragraphs and the endless sea of black print.

Looking at the Overlooked, The first critical book I have read on Still Life painting

There is not much literature available on the subject of still life painting that goes beyond the obvious surface information. This is the first review of the history of still life painting which reexamines the human implications of different still life ideas throughout history. The four essays are in depth explorations of the challenging questions asked by seemingly ordinary subject matter and the formal ways in which artists engage these concepts. I wish I would have known about this book years ago.

Wow!! Love this book!!! It opened my eyes to a lot of things I already knew was there but this really broke some things down to me. That I could just no longer ignore! This is a must have book! No joke! I ended a relationship of back and forth of 10 years that was going NO WHERE!! If I could give this book 1000 rating I would. Also I would recommend the book "Man leads, woman follows" This book and that one go hand in hand! all the information you need!

Just what the soul needs

I had the pleasure of reading this book. My husband and I hit a rock-bottom low and somehow this book was something I stumbled upon. This book literally made me cry. It said things I was longing to hear…if they were true or not, it gave me the validation I so desperately needed to hear. It also put our relationship into perspective. There were things that were not applicable to our marriage but there were things that were. I was so thankful that there was a section just for him to read…and then a section for us to read. I read the whole book before I gave it to him and in tears asked him to either read the whole book or just the part for him (when he was ready). This is a man who doesn’t read books…and he READ THE WHOLE THING. And we quietly sat down and talked. We pointed out what in the book applied to us and what we mutually agreed did not. While this is not the answer to our prayers it brought us together to acknowledge where we need to start and brought the communication back into our lives. This will help bring us closer to where we need to be…but this book truly helped us…and on a deeper level it helped me. Women young and old need to read this. It will help your soul on so many levels.

A Very Intuitive Man Who Will Make Women Think Twice!

Amari seems to have the ability to read a woman's spirit, essence and, if it's not too ironic, soul. It is a lovely read and gives you the ability to interact while going through the chapters. I found myself nodding my head in agreement and amazement that this man, whom I've never even met, knows what I feel inside so well.
This book is a process. One of which I am not going through so the title is a bit misleading. It takes one through the outlining who you are and what you want, then through the difficult stages of deciding whether to stay or go, how to move past an unhealthy relationship and the aftermath of being single. It is moving and inspiring and if you are in these parts of a relationship, a welcoming friend to help you through such events.
There is a section that men should read also. It gives helpful in site into a woman's thoughts and what women want and need from a relationship. This part of the book is directed to men.
What I liked about this book is Amari's wonderful sense of insite into how a woman feels and the help and inspiration to go on to be who you are and have what you want in a relationship. I could have saved myself a lot of heartache if this book were available when I was making the decision to stay or go in a relationship I was not meant to be in. There is incredible strength in this man's words.
This is the first book I have looked into and read by Amari Soul. I do hope he either has or will have a book for those of us who are in a healthy relationship and addresses making a happy marriage even more enriching.

Fantastic!!

In everyday life, you are selling. It doesn't matter if you are trying to convince your boss, or your spouse, of an idea or product, you are selling. And Tom Hopkins is a master. He teaches you how to get your points across without being pushy or overbearing, and how to overcome objections. The only way his principles do not work, is because you are not using them. I highly recommend buying this whether you think you are in sales or not.

Good coaching - for anyone

This is more than just about sales. This is about mental toughness, integrity and being ethical with other people. If you have ever had a pushy sales person who left a bad taste in your mouth, Tom Hopkins is not that. We are all selling something. Ourselves in a job interview, a car in the want ads, a house, whatever. Tom Hopkins encourages sales people to have integrity. I like that he makes point that we cannot be a "good" sales person if we don't care about people. Tom Hopkins changed my very scewed view of being a sales person to seriously considering it as a viable option.

I will also tell you to buy the master closing book. I read lots of selling strategy,and I fund that one of the best book is the secret of master closer because it tell you the different between order taker,customer service and closer, very good book on closing the deal.

Strange and eerie...

The Lonely by Andrew Michael Hurley is certainly not what I expected. Promoted as a gothic horror novel, complete with an ecstatic blurb by Stephen King, The Lonely surprises because it really isn’t a horror tale. At least a horror tale that readers of the genre would expect. Reading the reviews on Amazon and Goodreads will clearly support this observation. While I am one of those horror fans, I must say that I was not disappointed in the novel. In fact, I found it suspenseful, original, and more than a little unnerving.
By now you know the plot. A family, accompanied by their Catholic priest, family friends, and other parishioners, travel to a desolate part of the UK for a retreat. The purpose of the retreat is to once and for all complete a ritual which will cure one of the family’s teenage sons who is stricken with autism (although I cannot recall if this diagnosis is ever revealed as such). The narrator is the young man’s younger brother who recounts the tale as it occurred nearly forty years ago.
The geographical depictions are a central part of the story. The atmosphere, complete with fog, rain, and constant overcast skies, is a character in itself. The damp and gloomy houses haunt the reader on every page. The dank chill is always evident. There is even an old mansion that is off the coast and only accessible during low tide. The gothic nature of the tale oozes constantly.
The natives resent the presence of the pilgrims. And, there is something not quite right about these people. There’s a hint of witchcraft and pagan rituals, and there are veiled threats towards the visitors. The author keeps explanations for the strange events just beyond our grasp, and the depiction of the climax is ambiguous enough that it may not be to everyone’s taste. All of the action is reported through the first person account of a fifteen-year-old boy, and his experientially-limited frame of reference adds to the mystery. Oh, and the visiting retreatants are conservative Catholics (this being the 1970’s). The depiction of their beliefs and rituals is so well done that the reader can’t help but observe that these also have a bizarre/pagan feel to them (and I’m a Catholic, so my reaction wasn’t due to unfamiliarity).
Anyhow, I really liked this book. But, be aware, it is not a traditional horror story. Those who disliked it often referred to it as boring. These folks were clearly expecting standard horror fare. It’s not. But it is eerie, strange, and atmospheric. If you’re in the mood, give it a shot.

More of promise than achievement

There is a lot to like in this book - a well-designed process of plot revelation and some fine observations of nature. But there's also a lot of box-ticking: island reached by regularly flooded causeway - tick; religious mania - tick; quaint but threatening rural customs - tick; a local yokel, vaguely sinister - tick. Still, there are a few tropes not followed through, and little things like the tea lights and the simnel cake reveal a wry humour that I wish there'd been more of.

I wish I could get back the time I wasted reading this

After plodding along forever in this slow, slow narrative, I was hoping to be rewarded by at least an interesting if not scary ending. However, the ending made no sense at all. The elderly priest in the family's parish who presumably killed himself did so because he lost his faith, and he lost his faith because he went to the beach, saw a dead body, and felt alone? Huh? And the mute, autistic boy, brother of the protagonist, apparently (I say apparently, since there were no details provided), sold his soul to the devil to become normal? How? How did he make this desire known? There were characters never fleshed out at all--the ones seemingly involved in black magic. Maybe if they had been, this storyline would have begun to make some sort of sense. I wish I could get back the time I wasted reading this.
