Fun and informative book for anyone interested in historically accurate clothing

From Medieval Ages to New Look by Christian Dior in the 1950s this book examines not only the construction of clothing, but also the rules and attitudes of each Era as fashion changed, but also the impact of fashion on society, psychological effects and effects on the mind and body. It also examines how dangerous some these fashions were in ways I had not found in other books. Of course most of us know about the dangers of tight corsets but every Era of fashion had some element of danger and even death from the fashionable clothing of the day. There are also several humorous accounts of the unintended consequences of clothing designs. The book has several color plates illustrating the clothing for each Era.
This book is not only well researched but also written in a witty enjoyable style. I enjoyed reading it very much.

A slave to fashion

We complain about our lightweight bras, even with wires and panties weighing an oz.. I can't imagine it taking an hour or more to dress just for breakfast, I go in my sleep shorts and shirt, They had to put on 14lbs of garments!!!!!. Thank you for the clothing revolution. I also wish there had been more pictures/examples of the modes of dress talked about in this book.

This book is FULL of information and a fun read.
I found it interesting to read about all the crazy get-ups we have
created for ourselves over the years in the name of fashion, and
the lengths ( and pains ) we will take to achieve our idea of perfection.
