It was the only good birthing book that I read

I read this book as a husband. It was the only good birthing book that I read. It was informative, didn't have all of the soft lovey dovey stuff about birth-This book teaches you actionable techniques and realities of the mother. My parents taught me nothing about birth and this book informed me about everything that I need to know to be comfortable, useful and prepared. I highly recommend this book to husbands who don't want to read all of the other soft books about your feelings on birth. This book is actually useful.

Excellent book, terrible e-book

As a new dad with a now 7-month old son, this book helped me prepare for what my wife was going to go through and give me the tools and confidence to help her through everything she went through. I would recommend this book to all new fathers. HOWEVER, do not get the e-book. There are lots of tables and pictures that do not translate well into the smaller e-book format. Also, as a reference, this is much better used as a physical book.

Good, easy to read reference book. My husband and I both found the clinical details a bit overwhelming in places and we did not appreciate how the author pushes the 'need' for a doula. I can't imagine that many people being able to afford a doula (cost: $1500-3000) in addition to insurance deductibles and all the other expenses of preparing for a baby. This book pushes having a doula so much that first-time parents might end up feeling they can't be successful at natural childbirth without one -which is surely not the case!
