Spiral Approach

I really really like Saxon math Grade 4! And better yet, so does my son!!! Like others have stated, this is a spiral approach, repeating the same concepts while continually building upon them. The variety in each lesson is great. For instance, lesson 12 introduces pre algebra concept (find the missing number by subtracting down or adding up) and replaces the missing number with a letter- 14 - n = 6. Then gives more problems in the lesson. There's written equations, ones/tens/hundreds model, calendar questions, number line, regular add/sub, counting sequences (prep for multiplication in later lessons), money, greater than/less than/equal to -all in one lesson. It's not overwhelming because each concept is previously built upon and added to each lesson so it's not forgotten. This method works great for us because there's not an entire page of the same thing so it doesn't get boring. The lessons are long however - it takes my son almost an hour to finish approx 30 questions so sometimes we skip certain problems he knows and doesn't need repeated.

The book was very clean and practically brand new. If something should happen to another one of my son's school books I will absolutely be using this company again. I have even considered starting ordering books for his home use so that he doesn't have to carry the books back and forth to risk losing them and the fact that they are so heavy when there is more than one book in his bookbag.

My boy needs this for his math class and I didnt want him to carry this heavy book in his bag pack every day. So I bought this one for home.He has a school supplied one to use at the school and he keeps it in school. The book is pretty comprehensive like other saxon math versions and he likes working on these math lessons and problems.
